Key Time & Work Formulas
Time & Work Fundamentals - Efficiency Problems
Time and Work problems deal with how efficiently people or machines complete tasks. Work done is directly proportional to time and efficiency.
- Work = Efficiency × Time
- If A completes work in 'a' days, work done in 1 day = 1/a
- Combined Efficiency: 1/A + 1/B = 1/Total Time
- Efficiency Ratio = Time Ratio (inverse relationship)
- Example: A=10 days, B=15 days → Together: 1/10+1/15 = 1/6 → 6 days
Work & Wages - Payment Distribution
Wages should be proportional to the work done and the efficiency of workers.
- Wages ∝ Work done
- Wages ∝ Efficiency
- If A:B efficiency = 2:3, then wages ratio = 2:3
- Example: A:B=2:3, total=₹500 → A=₹200, B=₹300
Advanced Work Problems
Practical applications of time and work concepts.
- Example 1: A=10 days, B=15 days → Combined=1/10+1/15=1/6 → 6 days
- Example 2: A:B=2:3, wages=₹500 → A=₹200, B=₹300
- Example 3: A works 5 days (eff 2), B works 3 days (eff 1) → Ratio=10:3, total ₹130 → A=₹100, B=₹30
